The journey of love is transformative and this month’s curated playlist bears the space to heal.
With summer coming to an end and the fall season creeping in, I can’t help but feel a bit of melancholy. I end my day and get home just in time to see the sunset reflecting off the buildings surrounding my apartment. Returning to the calm and coziness of home, I get onto the couch, blast music from my soundbar, and leave my worries at the door.
This September, in particular, was the month for getting into the feels. With new releases from Laufey and Mitski, the sense of yearning just takes over. I could go on and on about the lyricism and how I feel (though I actually can’t; there’s no way to put these feelings into words), but for now, I will keep it simple. This month’s curated playlist is about a journey of love and healing.
We start with “Haunted” by Laufey, a short, one-sided love with lingering effects. Transitioning into “Angel” by Alice Phoebe Lou, she holds that love in her thoughts, and “The Frost” by Mitski then talks about being alone. “Open My Door” by APL is about acceptance and being her own. Finally, Mitski’s “My Love Mine All Mine” accepts love as the most powerful thing.
This relatively short playlist encapsulates this journey of love and accepting oneself. Light and airy, lullaby-esque, I feel like I’m lying in a forest glade, and the sun’s warmth envelops me as I dream into the unknown. This music is healing and transformative, pulling me into the complexity and depth of the human experience of being able to love. I’ve never been in love romantically, but I have loved and been loved, and it is transformative and beautiful. I am reminded that I, indeed, love—with music and with life.
